As of the source article’s date, NVIDIA had joined the European Commission’s AI in Science Enablers Initiative, committing accelerated tools, models and platforms, compute and cloud resources, data, scientific resources, training, technical support, pilot collaborations, and support for research talent and startups.
As of the source article’s date, the European Union describes the initiative as a public-private collaboration framework in which industry and philanthropic organisations make voluntary in-kind contributions of AI models, computing capacity, data, software and expertise to researchers. The EU says NVIDIA’s commitment will combine publicly available scientific AI software and models, hands-on training, technical expertise, and pathways to compute and research support.
Open resources and free learning materials
NVIDIA says that, as of the source article’s date, it had released more than 250 open models, 250 open datasets and more than 1,400 open-source software projects for the relevant community.
NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Institute has launched an open-source courseware hub. The materials can be downloaded for free under open licenses, with no registration, fee or expiration deadline.
Routes to compute and scope of support
As of the source article’s date, NVIDIA was working with European national AI factories and cloud-infrastructure partners to open new routes for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises to access sovereign European compute and services. NVIDIA says that, as of the source article’s date, 35 supercomputers were under construction in Europe, and that these systems would provide next-generation infrastructure for more than 3 million researchers.
NVIDIA’s official article did not disclose a standalone funding amount for this AI in Science Enablers Initiative. The EU describes participation as potentially involving models, computing capacity, research software, data, training, or other financial and in-kind support.
