Taiex Hits a Record, Ending 287.96 Points From 50,000

Taiwan’s Taiex closed at 49,712.04 on October 5, 2026, up 1,236.3 points, or 2.55%, for a record closing high. Based on that close, the index was 287.96 points short of 50,000.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC, 2330) reached an intraday record of NT$2,580 and closed at NT$2,575, with both prices marking record highs.

The AI group was split on October 5, 2026: Tai-Optoelectronics, Gold Circuit Electronics and Taiwan Union Technology closed at their daily limit-up prices, while Quanta, Inventec, Pegatron and Compal fell; United Microelectronics also fell by more than half of the daily limit.

CNA reported that TSMC will hold an investor conference on October 15, 2026. The market is watching its 2027 capital-spending plan, sub-A14 advanced processes, CoPoS advanced-packaging progress and AI-industry developments. TSMC expects its 2026 U.S.-dollar revenue growth to slightly exceed 40% and its 2026 capital spending to be US$60 billion to US$64 billion.

“As the index approaches 50,000, fund rotation will become more evident. Investors should not simply chase stocks that have already risen sharply, but may watch lower-positioned midstream and downstream names with themes that have not yet risen materially,” securities analyst Chen Wei-tai said.

Chen said high-level volatility would inevitably intensify as Taiwan stocks approach 50,000, and that the focus should shift from simply chasing prices to watching fund rotation and individual-stock positioning.
